Central, Southeastern & Eastern Europe Defence Industry Summit

On 11 November, representatives of Zakłady Metalowe Dezamet S.A. took part in the Central, Southeastern & Eastern Europe Defence Industry Summit, devoted to the future of the European defence industry.

The event was attended by representatives of governments, European Union institutions and key defence companies from across the region. Lectures were given by representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission and the European Defence Agency (EDA). All speakers came from NATO's eastern flank and from Central and Eastern Europe.

Important guests at the conference included Andrius Kubilius, European Commissioner for Defence and Space, and Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation.

The meeting was organised on the initiative of four Members of the European Parliament (Andrey Novakov/Bulgaria, Željana Zovko/Croatia, Marta Wcisło/Poland and Tomáš Zdechovský/Czech Republic).  The aim of the meeting was to provide participants with the latest information on European Union investments, initiatives and legislation relevant to defence sector companies.

Discussions focused on current support instruments and planned solutions under the next multiannual EU budget. New European Commission initiatives and Member States' commitments to the development of the European defence industry were also discussed.

Conference participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences and opinions on more effective ways of representing the industry's interests in Brussels and actively participating in shaping EU defence policy.

The mutual exchange of views between representatives of the sector from Central and South-Eastern Europe is of key importance – it allows for better use of available EU programmes and funds, increasing the competitiveness and innovation of European defence companies.
